I am writing my first blog and I hope you will take a few minutes to read this. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago, so i have had many opportunities to attend many breast cancer events. When I first found out about, and was the able to attend For Our Daughters Gala last October, I was very excited, for it was my first formal fundraising event for breast cancer awareness.
Being the girlie girl I am, I wanted to get that perfect outfit that would be right for a formal gathering. I was getting ready for my big night out, I made sure my makeup, hair, and outfit was perfect. I was going with two of my survivor sisters Michelle and Diane and was so excited for this special night. The Gala was held at the Buffalo Convention Center, where I have attended events in the past, but when I walked into this room, I was totally taken back; yes the room took my breath away!
What I saw was the most beautifully decorated and mesmerizing room that I have ever seen. It was just “magical”. The table settings were set in black and pink, the flowers, twinkling lights, all of the little details were just amazing. It put me in a very calming mood that was so welcoming. It was such an honor to be there with my fellow survivor sisters, the sisters have such a speacial connection, being friends forever. There is just a wonderful comaradaerie with my fellow sisters that cannot be explained.
As the evening continued, I got the chance to mingle and talk with some of the young ladies that attended the Gala. The young ladies were so excited, happy and so beautifully dressed and they also had the opportunity to show off their great moves on the dance floor. I also had the chance to participate in some of the raffles and silent auctions. I was lucky to win a gift certificate for a massage at a local spa, which made me very happy.
As I look back on that faithful night, I will never forget that moment I walked into the room. It was a feeling that I wish I could “bottle up” and keep with me, so at this time I would like to thank Mercedes and her wonderful committee for making that night a very “magical” evening for me.
I am looking forward to this year’s Gala event. I am excited to see and hear that the 2013 American Idol winner Candice Glover will sing at the event, which will be held on October 22 at the Buffalo Convention Center. It will truly be a night to remember for all.
